Civil and Structural Engineer, Part-Time AI Evaluation - Remote (United States)
OpenTrain AI• Up to $90 per hour
• 100% remote
• Part-time
• 20 or more hours per week, you choose when
Review civil and structural engineering work produced by AI systems, from calculations and models to estimates and design recommendations, and explain whether it is useful in real engineering and construction settings.
AI training is the human work behind systems that learn from examples. Engineering experts check model outputs, identify technical issues and write clear feedback, helping AI become more accurate and useful for real work. This role applies civil and structural engineering judgment to that process.
What you'll do
• Create realistic problems based on design, modeling, estimating, construction and project workflows.
• Review calculations, assumptions, models, quantities, estimates and design recommendations.
• Assess structural design, code compliance, fabrication-accurate modeling, quantity takeoffs, estimating and applied engineering analysis.
• Evaluate construction documentation and technical deliverables for real-world applicability.
Why this is worth your time
• Earn up to $90 an hour while applying civil and structural engineering expertise to AI evaluation.
• Work on technical questions involving design, modeling, construction and project delivery.
• Use engineering judgment and structured feedback to help improve AI performance.
• Take on ongoing project-based contract work with a self-directed remote schedule.
Who this is for
• Recent professional experience as a civil or structural engineer, either currently or within the past three years.
• A BS, MS or PhD in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering or a closely related field.
• Hands-on ownership of models, calculations, quantities, estimates, construction documents or other technical deliverables used to build, price, review or approve work.
• Technical depth in at least one area such as code-based structural design, fabrication-accurate modeling, quantity takeoff, estimating, applied simulation, construction documentation or building and infrastructure design.
• Professional fluency in English.
• Strong written communication, attention to detail and the ability to explain technical concepts clearly.
• PE licensure, EIT certification, building code experience or familiarity with AutoCAD, Revit, Civil 3D, Tekla Structures, SAP2000, ETABS, STAAD.Pro, RAM Structural System or RISA may be useful.
• Experience with steel, reinforced concrete, timber, masonry, foundations, specialty structures, BIM workflows, quantity surveying, cost modeling, takeoff software, detailing or multidisciplinary coordination may also be relevant.
• No AI experience needed.
Pay and details
• Up to $90 per hour, paid hourly as an independent contractor.
• Part-time, ongoing project-based contract work; 20 or more hours per week, you choose when.
• Fully remote, United States.
• Work is available as projects arise.
