$85 - $185 USD hourly

• $85–$185 per hour

• 100% remote

• Part-time

• Fully flexible schedule

Develop materials science questions and evaluate AI responses on your own schedule.

AI companies rely on materials scientists to test their systems against authentic materials science work. You will develop demanding questions and realistic scenarios that include constraints and supporting data across the field. You will prepare the reference analysis, spell out the reasoning, define objective scoring standards, and assess other contributors' questions to make sure the science is accurate, the methods are sound, and the grading is clear. This is that work, done remotely around your schedule.

What you'll do

• Design realistic materials science problems and technical scenarios involving structure-property relationships and materials processing

• Write the reference analysis and set out each step of your reasoning so a peer can check it

• Set objective grading standards that let independent expert reviewers reach the same conclusion

• Review other contributors' problems, checking the technical accuracy, the methods, and whether the grading is clear

Why this is worth your time

• Get paid $85–$185 an hour

• Use your materials science expertise on demanding technical problems that require scientific judgment

• Fit flexible part-time work alongside your current role

• Fully remote and flexible, no fixed shifts, no commute

Who this is for

• A PhD or a master's degree in materials science or a closely related discipline such as metallurgy, ceramics, polymer science, or condensed matter physics

• Research experience at the principal, staff, or fellow level in an industrial or national laboratory, or a faculty appointment with a leading university; deep technical expertise in one materials science subdomain or more, with hands-on ownership of that work

• Professional fluency in English

• No AI experience needed. Experience with AI or large language model evaluation is helpful, not required.

Pay and details

• $85–$185 per hour, paid hourly as an independent contractor

• Part-time, flexible schedule; fully remote, United States
